The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has suspended matches amidst the rising tension between India and Pakistan. The Thursday night match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off midway following air raid alerts in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot. However, with India’s packed schedule for the year, it’s doubtful whether there is any window left to resume the league.

From June 20, the first Test with England begins and continues till July until all five Tests get completed. In August, T20Is against Bangladesh begin, followed by the Asia Cup in September. In October, two Tests against West Indies and five T20Is against Australia are scheduled. The month of November will witness five T20Is and two Test matches against South Africa.

As per the Sportstar report, the matches are paused for a while and will be resumed following the government’s order. For the overseas players, chartered flights were arranged by the authorities. The games are more likely to be resumed in August-September, when the Bangladesh tour and Asia Cup are set to take place, if the authorities decide to resume the matches.

Tension had already been simmering in the background following India’s retaliatory strikes on nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) was also relocated to the UAE after an escalation in tension between the two countries. The ongoing confrontation had caused significant anxiety among foreign players, with sources reporting they will be returning over the next few days. Sixty-two overseas players were signed by the 10 IPL franchises during last year’s mega-auction.

The IPL 2025 season has reached the 58-match mark, factoring in the abandoned fixture in Dharamsala. Now, only 12 group-stage matches remain, set to be played across Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoffs will follow, with matches slated for Hyderabad and Kolkata.
