Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal is set to be discharged from hospital in Agartala on Wednesday evening, a day after he was admitted following a mid-flight medical emergency. The opening batter was deplaned en route to Surat after consuming what he believes to be only drinking water from a bottle. He was rushed to the ILS Hospital, where he was declared clinically stable.

As per a medical bulletin issued by the hospital on Tuesday, Agarwal experienced “”oral irritation and swelling on lips””. The Karnataka team manager subsequently issued a written complaint on behalf of Agarwal to the Tripura police, requesting them for a thorough investigation into the incident.

“While sitting on a flight, he saw a pouch in front of him, and thinking of it as water, drank it,” K Kiran Kumar (SP, Tripura West) told PTI on Tuesday. “He had swelling and ulcers in his mouth. His condition is normal, and his vitals are stable. His manager has made a complaint. We are registering the complaint, and will investigate the matter.”

Agarwal took to Instagram to notify his fans and followers about his recovery, saying that he “is feeling better now”.

Earlier on Tuesday, IndiGo airlines confirmed that their flight had returned to Agartala due to a medical emergency on board. “IndiGo flight 6E 5177 operating from Agartala to Delhi returned to origin due to a medical emergency onboard. The passenger was offloaded and was rushed to the hospital for further medical assistance. The aircraft took off again for its destination at 1620h.”

Agarwal is set to miss the fifth round of Ranji trophy fixture against the Railways, starting from Friday. In his absence, Nikin Jose will lead the side into the round.
