Premier India batter Suryakumar Yadav is doubtful for selection for India’s home series vs Bangladesh, slated to run from September.
Yadav, who was recently promoted as Team India’s T20 captain, suffered a hand injury during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament on Friday. It is likely to halt his return to the longest format after making his debut on February 2023 during the Border-Gavaskar series at home against Australia.
The Mumbaikar had revealed his intention of making a comeback to the Test team and made himself available in the Duleep Trophy next month and took part in the Buchi Babu tournament in Coimbatore, this week, where he injured his finger on Day 3 of the Mumbai Cricket Association in their third and final group-stage game against TNCA XI. The medical staff soon consulted him on the ground before being taken off the field. However, the BCCI is still to release further details on his injury.
Yadav will miss out on the Duleep Trophy squad with only five days remaining after the selectors indicated that the domestic tournament will play a key role in the announcement of the India vs Bangladesh Test squad.
The India’s home series against Bangladesh will include two Tests and three T20Is.
