India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has made himself available for Mumbai’s second Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash against Maharashtra at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai, starting from October 18.
Yadav has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about his availability after the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh which concludes on Saturday.
India currently lead the three-match T20 series 2-0 but the Mumbai batter has underperformed in the first-two matches, scoring 29 runs in Gwalior and 8 in Delhi.
“He has informed the MCA that he will be part of the Ranji Trophy team which will play against Maharashtra,” a source in the MCA confirmed.
The top-ranked T20 batter will maintain his policy of featuring in domestic cricket or T20 tournaments during his absence from the national squad. He will be seen as a specialist in the shortest format in the run-up to the next T20 World Cup in 2026 which will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka.
With Team India’s next assignment set to be a three-match Test series at home against New Zealand, which will run from October 16 till the first week of November, the T20 specialist will sit out as the selectors are likely to retain the same Test squad used in the Bangladesh series. His only Test appearance came against Australia in Nagpur, 2023.
