WATCH: Gautam Gambhir Takes Guard As Team India Head Coach In Pallekele

In a new era for Team India, Gautam Gambhir took guard as head coach at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. His first assignment will begin with the first of three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Gambhir interacted with Team India all-rounder Shivam Dube and passed some batting tips to wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson. The initial session was focused on running activities and fielding practice where Mohammed Siraj, newly appointed T20 captain Surayakumar Yadav, and vice-captain Shubman Gill were seen in action.

“𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗺 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗵𝗶𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲! 💪 #TeamIndia | #SLvIND | @GautamGambhir,” the BCCI captioned the video.

Gambhir’s coaching staff includes Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches along with Sairaj Bahutule as the interim bowling coach and T Dilip retaining his position as the fielding coach. The former India opener said that the dressing room will always belong to the players with the support staff trying to get the best out of them.

“A happy dressing room is a winning dressing room. Ultimately it is the players’ team, the support staff is there to try and get the maximum out of their potential. Sometimes international cricket can be tough, it can be insecure as well because only 15 can be picked. It is the job of support staff to keep them happy.”

It will be a new beginning for the T20 World Champions under the captaincy of Team India’s top-ranked batter Suryakumar. The Team India tour of Sri Lanka will comprise three T20Is and as many ODIs which will conclude on August 7.
