Premier Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Ellyse Perry was presented with a broken glass pieces award, named, the “Perry Powerful Punch” by WPL title sponsors TATA at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday.
The award had the date on which Perry broke the window of TATA Punch EV engraved on it. Incidentally, it was the first time a player in the WPL shattered the glass of the car which was placed close to the boundary line by the title sponsors of the league.
It was on March 4 when Perry played an exciting knock of 58 runs off 37 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore against UP Warriors. Her innings was laced with four boundaries and as many hit over the fence. However, her six in the penultimate over grabbed the headlines as it broke the TATA Punch EV’s window.
The incident took place in the penultimate delivery of the penultimate over when Perry hit a tossed-up delivery from Deepti Sharma over the deep mid-wicket and shattered the car’s window. For, those unversed, the Tata Punch EV is the official car of the WPL 2024.
Perry herself looked surprised at the hit as her expression said it all. The Australia who collected the Player of The Match award after the match said that she was a tad worried about the damage caused. “I was a bit worried, not sure I have insurance to cover me. So, in a bit of strife there,” she said before later telling teammate Smriti Mandhana, “I hope no one is charging me for that”.
Incidentally her knock along with captain Smriti Mandhana’s half-century guided RCB to a 23 runs victory over the UP Warriorz. Their combined efforts helped RCB reach a challenging total of 198/3. In response, the UP Warriorz fell short, managing, only 175 runs.
