Since Apple launched its iPhone 16 series at the Glowtime event, there has been a buzz over various social media platforms that the tech giant is filling the same old bottles with new wine. It has been a serious discussion and fuss as people wrote on X that the company’s new model has no difference from the iPhone 15, except for a higher price tag.

Now, one of the competitors, the South Korean mobile brand Samsung takes a dig at Apple saying that they are still waiting for Apple to launch ‘foldable’ phones, indirectly mocking Apple that Samsung owns the foldable domain. Samsung wrote on X: “Let us know when it folds.”

It was indeed rumoured and discussed why Apple is not thinking about bringing a foldable phone to the market. Since Apple is quietly working on AR glasses, the potential change in future can be expected. However, most users are probably not ready to commit to a folding phone, until foldable phones become thinner and more durable. This is considered a noteworthy point for Apple that it could be the sole reason for the company to not work on foldable phones yet.

Additionally, in 2018, CEO Tim Cook asked his team to explore the foldable idea. They showed him a prototype with a 7-inch screen, and he liked the folding design. But Apple is worried about making it work technically and making it worth the high price. At first, Apple wanted the screen to be on the outside when the phone was closed. Later, they had trouble making it durable and thinner. They also wanted it to be as thin as current iPhones, but that was hard to do with the battery and screen technology as well.

So, Apple reportedly stopped working on the foldable iPhone around 2020 and started thinking about a foldable iPad instead. They thought an iPad could be thicker and wouldn’t need to be as durable as an iPhone. It would also be a good way to test the idea without committing to a full iPhone launch.

Apart from that, the latest launch of the iPhone 16 has also sparked controversies. Some users criticised the company for repeating the old models at hefty prices. Users also said that the company is marketing Apple intelligence and there is not much to boast about the new design and launch.

Another user said that the new model is pretty much identical to the old model and has nothing exceptional to talk about. The user stressed that there is no consistency in innovation as the company seems to be lazy to make the new one stand out from its predecessors.
