Elon Musk“s X, previously known as Twitter, has officially rolled out audio and video calling features on the platform. Billionaire Elon Musk is making significant changes to the platform as part of his efforts to convert X to an “everything app“.

“Early version of video & audio calling on 𝕏,” wrote Musk while resharing a post informing how to enable the new call feature. Some users reportedly received a notification stating, ‘Audio and video calls are here!’. To initiate a call, users are required to update the app first. Then, users need to enable the audio and video call feature in the settings. For making a call on X, users need to open a direct message with another user, select the phone icon located in the top right corner, and choose between an audio or video call option.

X users can also choose to allow audio and video calls from those in their address book, those who they follow, verified handles, or all three options. Earlier in August, Elon Musk announced that the microblogging platform will soon permit users to make calls with their contacts without sharing their phone numbers. Currently, this call feature is available only to X Premium (Twitter Blue) users.

On the other hand, October 27 marks the first anniversary of Musk taking over X. Linda Yaccarino, Chief Executive Officer of X, said that the platform has become a place where everyone can freely express themselves. “We transformed Twitter into X, the everything app, where everyone is increasingly connected to everything they care about,” said Linda Yaccarino in an official statement. The CEO also added that X became the modern global town square.
