Elon Musk always likes to make headlines, as he is known for his bold statements. Musk recently made a donation offer to Wikipedia and said that he would pay $1 billion to Wikipedia if they changed their name. “I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia,” the billionaire wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Elon Musk also added that this is “in the interests of accuracy.”

This viral post has received over 10 million views and over a lakh likes so far. Meanwhile, a user urged Wikipedia to take the money, change its name, and immediately change it back. Responding to this, Elon Musk replied that the name change had to remain for at least a year. “One year minimum. I mean, I”m a not fool lol,” the Tesla owner said. Musk also shared an image of the Wikipedia homepage with the words “Wikipedia is not for sale” and “a personal appeal from Jimmy Wales” in it.
Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money?

Elon Musk also asked why Wikipedia was always asking for donations from users. “Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money? It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone!” Musk wrote on X. “So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know …,” Musk added. Earlier also, Elon Musk criticised Wikipedia severely. In 2022, he said that Wikipedia was “losing its objectivity”. In May 2023, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales criticised Elon Musk for censoring X in Turkey.
