Google has recently hiked the prices of its YouTube ( American online video-sharing platform owned by Google) platform for Premium subscriptions. The company has increased its certain monthly plans by 58 per cent. The cost of individual, student and family plans has surged and been in force already.

YouTube has begun acknowledging the members as the company sent emails to the existing users regarding the price hike. The user has to agree to the new hike to continue with the subscription. The company wrote in the email: “We don’t make these decisions lightly, and this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”

This was shared by an account on the X @MrSahilBawa, sharing a screenshot of a notification from  YouTube, stating that he received an email from the platform saying:  “To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to Rs 299 per month.” He wrote that it was time to say goodbye to the platform since he was miffed with the ads.

YouTube increased Direct Premium Family Plan subscription costs from INR 189 per month to INR 299 per month in India.

This is more than a 58% price increase.

Revised Subscription Plans:

• Family plan has seen the most significant rise from Rs 189 to Rs 299 per month (5 members can share a single subscription).
• The monthly price for the student plan has jumped from Rs 79 to Rs 89.
• Individual plan has increased to Rs 149 from Rs 129.
• Prepaid Plans which are the individual, quarterly and annual prepaid options are hiked to Rs 159, Rs 459 and Rs 1,490 respectively.

These new subscription plans are effective now and apply to both existing Premium users and new subscribers as well.
