Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that his social networking service is going to disable the “block” feature soon, on Friday. “It makes no sense”, said Mr Musk validating the decision.
Users will still be able to mute accounts and block others for DM”s.
Concerns over potential increase in harassment, spam, and privacy arising from multiple corners.
This is the latest change Mr Musk had introduced to X in the last 10 months since he closed on his massive $44 billion purchase, and as he comes under fire over concerns around Twitter’s moderation policy, reported the Forbes.
Mr Musk confirmed the change through a comment to an X post by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley. “Is there ever a reason to block vs mute someone? Give your reasons”, posted the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley on Friday.
“Block is going to be deleted as a “feature”, except for DMs”, replied Mr Musk.
The feature of blocking “makes no sense”, he added.

Under the new system, X users will no longer be able to restrict individual accounts from contacting them, following them or seeing their posts.
But by muting an account, users are able to remove that account’s posts effectively from their timeline, without blocking or unfollowing them.
“You will still be able to mute accounts and block users for DM”s”, said Mr Musk in reply to the X handle “Watcher.guru”.
