Instagram has clarified that the widespread concern regarding the alleged data breach of over 17.5 million accounts was the result of a technical issue and not a data breach.

In a statement on social media platform X, Instagram said that it has fixed the issue that let an external party request password reset emails for some people.

“There was no breach of our systems and your Instagram accounts are secure. You can ignore those emails — sorry for any confusion,” the Meta-owned platform added.

The clarification comes amid users across several countries reported receiving unexpected emails asking them to reset their Instagram passwords, prompting fears of a massive data breach or compromise.

On Friday, cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes linked the password reset activity to an alleged data breach involving millions of Instagram users, causing panic among the users.
