Sam Altman has decided to return to OpenAI as its CEO. Sam Altman made this significant announcement on his X handle on November 22, amid the chaos surrounding OpenAI over the past several days. Earlier on November 20, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Sam Altman would join Microsoft.

The American entrepreneur also said that he is looking forward to returning to OpenAI with a new board and Satya Nadella”s support. “With the new board and w satya’s support, i’m looking forward to returning to openai, and building on our strong partnership with msft,” added Sam Altman.
OpenAI also confirmed this development and said that the company has reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO. OpenAI will also have a new board, comprising Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D”Angelo. “We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D”Angelo,” wrote the company on its X handle on November 22.

Satya Nadella also welcomed Sam Altman”s decision to return to OpenAI. The Microsoft CEO said that it is the first step on a path to more stable, well-informed, and effective governance. “Sam, Greg, and I have talked and agreed they have a key role to play along with the OAI leadership team in ensuring OAI continues to thrive and build on its mission,” added Satya Nadella on his X account minutes after Sam Altman announced his decision.

Sam Altman was sacked by OpenAI’s board of directors on November 17. On that occasion, OpenAI stated that Sam Altman was removed as he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board. However, this controversial decision resulted in a lot of issues within the company. Following Sam Altman”s departure, hundreds of OpenAI employees threatened to resign and join Microsoft. Emmett Shear, the interim CEO of OpenAI, also threatened to leave the company if the board could not provide the reason for Sam Altman’s ouster.
