Vodafone Idea Discontinues Vi Movies & TV From Prepaid Plans To Promote New Subscription Service

Vodafone Idea (Vi), a leading telecom operator in India, has removed its in-house OTT service, Vi Movies and TV, from all prepaid plans. This change is evident as none of the prepaid plans listed on the telco”s website or mobile app now include the Vi Movies and TV benefits. The move seems aimed at encouraging users to switch to a paid subscription model recently launched by the telco.

Vi Movies and TV functions as an OTT aggregator, bundling various streaming platforms into one service without producing original content. Vi has introduced the Vi MTV Pro plan, which costs Rs 202 per month to attract more paying customers.

There is no annual subscription option at a discounted rate, making the yearly cost over Rs 2400. Although this is relatively expensive, the subscription offers access to a wide range of premium content.

The Vi MTV Pro plan includes subscriptions to 14 premium platforms: Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, Manorama Max, FanCode, NammaFlix, Chaupal, Klikk, PlayFlix, Warner Bros Discovery, DistroTV, ShemarooMe, Hungama, NexGTV, and YuppTV.

For users interested in content from these platforms, the subscription represents significant savings. However, for those whose preferences do not align with these services, standalone subscriptions might be a better option.

There are alternative OTT aggregation services available from other providers such as Airtel, Jio, and Tata Play, which also offer monthly plans. Users might want to explore these options to find the best fit for their streaming needs.
