This movie has been added to the long list of Mammootty hits from the recent times including Kathal: The Core, Kannur Squad and Bhishma.
Rahul Sadasivan’s Bramayugam that was released on SonyLIV OTT comes after the director’s outing with another critically acclaimed Bhoothakalam. Not just Mammootty, the performances of Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan were also praised and talked about by the critics and audience alike. “The biggest among the surprises in the movie is Arjun Ashokan,” wrote Timeline’s critic Nadeer Ashraf. Interestingly, both actors are coming from film legacy; Arjun Ashokan is son of famous Malayalam comedian Harishri Ashokan while Sidharth Bharathan is son of late Bharathan, one of Malayalam film industry’s maverick directors from the past.
The young actor Arjun Ashokan, who has been part of some of the commercially successful movies in Malayalam, has bettered his range to one of the best in the industry with this movie, according to critics. His control over the abandoned mansion symbolizes hegemonic power, where he dictates the actions of others to maintain dominance,” wrote Nadeer Ashraf.
Bramayugam was praised by the audience a lot, and while writing on social media, a user called Bramayugam, “an absolute terrific folklore horror with brilliant metaphorical layers on power corruption and human greed”. The user has also praised Mammootty for the star’s “flabbergasting beast of a performance”.
