If you are extra protective about your WhatsApp chats, the platform may soon introduce a perfect solution for you. Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly working to unveil a custom password feature for protected chat folders. The instant messaging platform”s new feature, known as a “secret code,” is designed to improve the security and accessibility of protected chats.

A report from WABetaInfo indicates that WhatsApp users can enter this secret code in the search bar to gain access to locked chats and also configure it for companion devices. These passwords can also be customized using either a word or an emoji. Earlier too, through a blog post, WhatsApp indicated about a custom password feature. WhatsApp already provides options to hide the chats, and the upcomg feature will give additional layer of security for the users. This security feature is under development and is expected to be rolled out in the future updates.

Apart from the secret code feature, the platform already provides other security options for the users. This includes app lock using fingerprint recognition, face unlock, or a PIN code. WhatsApp launched the Chat Lock feature for both iOS and Android users in May. When chats are locked, the notification content and contacts are also hidden. Users can also lock group chats and muted chats. WhatsApp says that this will be helpful for users in situations where they may share their phones with family members or where other individuals may have access to their devices. WhatsApp is trying to enhance the platform”s security measures, and this comes amid the rising concerns to digital privacy.
