WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging platform, is developing augmented reality (AR) features for video calls. As discovered by WABetainfo, a WhatsApp update tracker, the latest iOS update (version 24.17.10.74) on TestFlight includes AR-powered call effects and filters. This upcoming enhancement aims to enrich the video calling experience on WhatsApp, providing users with innovative and engaging ways to interact with others.

The report from WABetainfo notes: “It appears that WhatsApp now intends to offer iOS users the same opportunity to explore new augmented reality features as it already does for the Android version.”

WhatsApp is introducing several new features to enhance user experience, including dynamic facial filters for video calls, a background editing tool for blurring or replacing surroundings, a low-light mode toggle for improved visibility, and a touch-up mode tool to smoothen appearances during video calls. These updates aim to provide users with more control over their video call experience, enabling them to communicate more effectively and confidently.

WhatsApp will now save customized video call settings, allowing users to maintain their preferred configuration without needing to reconfigure for each call. These features are currently available to select beta testers on the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS via TestFlight and are expected to be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.

Meta has revised its WhatsApp Business messaging policy to enable businesses in regulated industries in India to send promotional messages to users through the WhatsApp Business platform, providing companies with new opportunities to engage with customers and expand their reach.
WhatsApp is introducing a new “Username and PIN” feature, allowing users to replace their phone numbers with usernames for added privacy. This feature will offer three settings: username only, phone number, or username with PIN, giving users more control over their identity on the platform.
