The Meta-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp is now rolling out multi-account feature to more users, Financial Express quoted WABetaInfo.

According to the reports, the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.21 update will be rolling the multi account feature to more beta users. This update is accompanied by a new interface for the app settings. Beta”s are newer and experimental versions of apps which are still in the developmental stages and not in the final one.

The feature allows WhatsApp users to add multiple accounts on a single device. Earlier, users who want to include a second account on their smartphone resort to installing a cloned version of WhatsApp.

Instead, the recently added multi-account feature in the latest beta version offers an account switcher. The switcher facilitates transitioning between the primary account associated with the smartphone and other WhatsApp accounts.

The feature was first reported in June 2023 and it was accessible only to a limited number of beta testers who have updated to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.17.8.

WhatsApp will most likely bring it to the stable version in the coming weeks. The feature can be helpful for people who have multiple phone numbers, such as for work and personal use, or for people who want to have separate accounts for different countries or regions, reported the Financial Express.

Once the feature is enabled in an updated version of WhatsApp, the user is free to create a new account by tapping on the “Add Account” button in the settings menu. User can enter the new or alternative phone number and need to follow the upcoming instructions.

The new additional account will stay on the device, until the user log outs. Each account will have its own chat history, notifications, and settings. Users can switch between accounts by tapping on the account switcher in the settings menu.

WhatsApp is a freeware, cross-platform, centralized instant messaging and voice-over-IP service owned by United States tech conglomerate Meta Platforms. It allows users to send text, voice messages and video messages, make voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user locations, and other contents.
