Congress leader Supriya Shrinate slammed poet and former politician Kumar Vishwas for his veiled remarks aimed at veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha. In a video posted on X, Shrinate launched a scathing attack on Vishwas; the Congress leader questioned him making “lewd comments” targeting the Sinha family for “cheap applause.”

During a poetry event in Meerut, Vishwas, alluding to the Sinha family, said, “Teach your children the Ramayana. Otherwise, it might happen that while your house is named ‘Ramayana,’ someone else may take away the ‘Lakshmi’ of your household,” followed by applause and cheers by the crowd.

Questioning the same, Shrinate slams Vishwas for his “anti-women” mindset. “This mentality that till she is in her father’s home, she is his property, and when she goes to her husband’s home, she becomes his property, when will it change?”

For context, Shatrughan Sinha’s house is named Ramayana, and Sonakshi had recently tied the knot with actor Zaheer Iqbal, who hails from a Muslim family. Several people criticised him for his veiled remarks against the actor family and Sonakshi’s interfaith marriage.

The Congress leader further attacked Vishwas’ for questioning Sonakshi’s character simply because she exercised her right to marry someone of her choice. “Will the self-claimed protectors of religion decide who will eat what, who will wear what, who loves whom, and who gets married to whom?”

“You have a great desire to become a narrator of Ram Katha; if only you had a little bit of dignity and decency of Lord Rama,” she added.

Shrinate urged Vishwas to apologise to both Shatrughan Sinha and Sonakshi.

Vishwas’ comments come after veteran actor Mukhesh Khanna, best known as Shaktiman, recently criticised Sonakshi and her father, citing a 2019 clip where the actress incorrectly answered a question related to Ramayana on Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.

Responding to Khanna’s “distasteful” remarks, the actress took to her Instagram story and slammed him for attacking her upbringing and family for publicity.

Shatrughan Sinha also stated, “What qualifies this person to be an expert on the Ramayana? Sonakshi is a daughter any father would be proud of. Not answering a question on the Ramayana doesn’t disqualify her from being a good Hindu. She doesn’t need approval from anyone.”
