Iran-US High-Stakes Negotiation In Oman Begins Amid Threat Of Another West Asian Conflict

Muscat, Oman: The negotiations between Iran and the U S has started shortly in Muscat, Oman as both sides are standing firm on their positions. While Iran has agreed to make a deal on its nuclear program under the watch of an international agency, the country has categorically rejected broader multilateral talks that would cover missiles, proxies, and alleged human rights issues which the US is pushing for.

The high-stakes session comes amid recent naval clashes, rising oil prices, and Iran’s ongoing domestic protests amid the threat of US military intervention in the Persian country.

Though both sides  signalled readiness to revive diplomacy, Washington wants the talks to cover Iran’s nuclear programme, its ballistic missiles, support for proxies in the region, which seems unacceptable for Iran. The latest negotiation is crucial for the region, especially since the US attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities in June.
