Tehran Says Ceasefire Deal Uncertain As US Resumes Strikes Against Iran

On Tuesday, Iran reportedly suggested that the chances of a deal with the United States remain uncertain as the US continue to strike Iranian territories including Qeshm Island.

US carried out the airstrike at Iran after president Trump said he did not plan to attack Iran after the midterm elections and voiced hope for a deal. Though Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said an agreement could be reached and that the government was “authorised” to renew a truce, the  head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, rejected an offer passed to Tehran from Qatari negotiators on Tuesday, following the US attack.

He further said that the US response to the demands of the Iranian nation was insufficient, adding that American should fully and explicitly address Iran’s seven conditions and act upon them.

Stating it to be defensive, the US attack on Iran has further escalated the conflict, with the Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired a surface-to-air missile at a US warplane. Another strike occurred after the US intercepted a missile fired from Qeshm at a commercial vessel.
