Damascus, Israel: Israel is taking advantage of Syria’s recently unleashed chaos. While the country is still reeling in the surprise overthrowing of Assad government, reports suggest that Israeli Occupation Force is nearing to capital city Damascus. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that all the air defence system in Syria targeted by Israel has been completely destroyed.
As per the report, the Israeli Occupation Force has penetrated the buffer zone in the Israeli occupied Golan Heights.
Tel Aviv has been attacking the Iran and Hezbollah linked targets in Syria for several years. However, Israel operated under rules based on negotiations with Russia. Reportedly, the negotiations also included promise to not to destabilise al-Assad’s government.
As per media reports, Israel is taking full advantage of the ambiguity of political atmosphere is Damascus.
Condemning Israel’s move, Qatar said the Gulf countries urgently asked the global community to take actions for the international law to be adhered.
“No one is allowed, under any circumstances, including the Israeli occupation, to seize opportunities to occupy … Syrian territories”, said Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari.
Adding that the Israeli incursion into Syria is a violation committed by Israel against the territories of Syria, he said, “This will lead the region into more problems”.
IOF denied passing the buffer zone in occupied Golan Heights. The military’s spokesperson said the military has not passed the buffer zone.
Israel also launched more than 300 bomb attacks in Syria. Tel Aviv’s local media reported that its military has carried out “one of the largest attack operations in the history of its air force” in Syria after the removal of Bashar al-Assad. Reportedly, Israel attacked more than 210 sites in Syria in a systematic manner.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, he told the Israeli Occupation Force (IOF) to to grab the buffer zone, established in a 1974 ceasefire with Syria, shortly after al-Assad was overthrown. He said the occupied Golan Heights would remain with Israel “for eternity”.
Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Netanyahu called the fall of al-Assad regimes as “a direct result of the strong blows we have delivered to Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran”.
Turkey slammed Israel for once again showcasing its ‘occupying mentality’. In a statement released, Ankara said “In this sensitive period, when the possibility of achieving the peace and stability the Syrian people have desired for many years has emerged, Israel is once again displaying its occupying mentality”.
