Dubai, United Arab Emirates: All the contents published on social media now need ‘Advertiser Permit’ in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the gulf nation recently launched the new regulation. The UAE Media Council’s decision is applicable to all social platforms including Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. The rule will come into effect in three months and the advertiser permit will be granted free of charges for the initial three months, reports Khaleej Times, citing government sources.

With the law, the gulf nation aims to regulate and develop the advertising content economy. It says it would enhance the competitiveness of the digital advertising sector and encourage individual and institutional investment while attracting content creators to the country.

There are certain condition for granting advertiser permit. The requirements mandate minimum age 18 years with possible exceptions for certain age groups based on terms and conditions. The activity license must be issued under the name of a legal guardian for those under 18. The applicants should btain a trade licence in electronic media from the relevant authorities, and the visitors can obtain a advertiser permit through a licensed agency in the UAE.
