Kelsey Hatcher, a central Alabama woman was born with two uteri, is pregnant in both with girls, WVTM13 reports.

Ms Hatcher and her husband, Caleb are already parents to three children; ages 7, 4 and 2. And the due date is on Christmas. It was on last spring, she got pregnant and when she met obstetrician for their first ultrasound appointment she came to know that she has a double uterus. Ms Hatcher says it shocked her obstetrician that she has two function uterus and has a baby in each of them.

The Mayo Clinic, a nonprofit American academic medical centre, terms double uterus as a rare medical condition “present at birth” in some women. Though a double uterus may have one opening, called cervix, into one vagina, in some cases, “each uterus has its own cervix.” In Kelsey”s situation she has two uterus with two cervix making her pregnancies presumed high-risk.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Dr. Richard Davis who specialises in high-risk pregnancies told WVTM13: “A double cervix or double uteruses way under 1%, maybe three per 1,000 women might have that. And then the probability of you having a twin in each horn is really crazy.”

Mr Davis also adds that when she goes into labour, her each uterus need to be closely monitored and should observe contractions of each uterus, whether they are undergoing at same time or different. Since her rare pregnancies is tracking attention, Ms Hatcher and her babies will even be a topic of research study.

Amidst these attentions, and excitement around new additions to their family, the couple tell that this will be their final pregnancy. “The third one was our last one. But though, we”re grateful for the blessings for sure. But this will definitely be the end,” she told.
