
Italy, Spain To Send Warships To Protect Global Sumud Flotilla From Israeli Attacks
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that his country would join Italy in sending to protect the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, after repeated attacks and threats from Israel. The flotilla comprises 51 vessels currently aims to break the Israeli siege of Gaza.
Sanchez said the navy vessel would be sent from the Spanish port city of Cartagena on Thursday, “with all necessary resources in case it was necessary to assist the flotilla and carry out a rescue operation.
Spanish PM urged to respect international law and the rights of the Spanish citizens on board to sail through the Mediterranean in safe conditions.

Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has also said that his country will send its navy ship towards the flotilla to offer it possible assistance. The country’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, said there are “Italian citizens along with members of parliament and MEPs” among the pro-Palestinian activists in the flotilla, which reported hearing of blasts nearby as it sailed off Greece late on Tuesday.
The Global Sumud Flotilla reported multiple drones, unidentified objects dropping, communication errors, and explosions heard from a number of boats. However, no casualty was reproted by the flotilla.

The flotilla started from Barcelona earlier this month with an aim of breaking the Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Among its high profile particpants include Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, American actress and activist Susan Sarandon, Irish actor Liam Cunningham and Mandla Mandela Grandson of Nelson Mandela among other eminent personality and activists.
