Manda Mandela To Join Global Sumund Flotilla: "Our Freedom Is Incomplete Without The Freedom Of Palestine"

Mandla Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela, will join 10 South Africans sailing with the largest civilian flotilla yet to break Israel’s siege on Gaza. More than 50 boats from at least 44 countries will converge in the Mediterranean on September 4th under the Global Sumud Flotilla. The board is lined with crowds of activists, support staff, and well-wishers who come to see the crews off.

Speaking to crowds in Johannesburg, Mandela said the mission aims to end the blockade and break the siege on Gaza, bringing humanitarian aid to Palestinians facing starvation.

His words echo the position of his grandfather, who long voiced support for the Palestinian struggle, saying, “We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinian”.

The Global Sumund Flotilla has left the Spanish port city of Barcelona on Aug 31, with the stated goal of ‘breaking Israel’s illegal siege of Gaza’.

The Global Sumund Flotilla describes itself as an independent group not linked to any government or political party.

Sumund means ‘perseverance’ in Arabic.

Several eminent personalities are set to join the Global Sumund Flotilla to break the Gaza Siege including Greta Thunburg, Liam Cunningham, Mandla Mandela, Portugese lawmaker Mariana Mortagua including 50 others who’s names are not revealed yet.

UN special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has voiced support for the Global Sumund Flotilla and said, “Forza Sumund Flotilla: you are moral warriors, where states remain inactive. And complicit”.
