'Two Ancient Civilisations In East, Key To Global South: Xi Jinping Tells PM Modi Being Friends 'Right Choice'
Tianjin, China: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a historic visit to China, the first in seven years to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. The Indian leader on Sunday met Chinese President Xi Jinping.
During a bilateral meeting with PM Narendra Modi, Xi stated that China and India are two ancient civilizations in the East, and are the world’s most populous countries, highlighting that both are also important members of the Global South.

“We both shoulder the historical responsibility of improving the well-being of our two peoples, promoting the solidarity and rejuvenation of developing countries, and promoting the progress of human society,” Xi stated, stressing that it is the right choice for both countries to be friends who have good neighborly and amicable ties, partners who enable each other’s success.
Prime Minister Modi told the Chinese leader that the disengagement of Indian and Chinese forces on the border last year had created an atmosphere of peace and stability. The meeting marks for the second time since the two sides reached an understanding last October to end a military face-off on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that began in April-May 2020, making the bilateral ties to their lowest point since the 1962 border war during the stand-off.
