A 1-month-old baby girl died as her mother mistakenly put her into an oven for a nap instead of a crib, Sky News reports. The incident happened in United States” Missouri on Friday afternoon. The baby”s mother, identified as Mariah Thomas, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The 26-year-old Mariah is a Kansas City, Missouri, resident.
The news known to public, when the police officers in Missouri responded to a report of an infant not breathing. When they arrived at the place, officers discovered the baby with “apparent burns.” The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the statement by the first responders, the mother put the child down for a nap and accidentally placed the child in the oven instead of the crib. However, it did not explain how that mistake was made, Sky News reports. The other circumstances that could have led to the incident was also not revealed.
Expressing condolences, Jackson County prosecuting attorney Jean Peters Baker said in a statement: “We acknowledge the gruesome nature of this tragedy and our hearts are weighted by the loss of this precious life. As per the reports, Mariah Thomas is facing a class A felony in Missouri under child endangerment with a potential prison imprisonment of 10 to 30 years. She is currently being held at the Jackson County Detention Center.
