Arup Kanti Digar Determined To Give Tough Fight To The Ruling TMC Candidate In Arambagh

BJP has fielded Arup Kanti Digar from Arambagh Lok Sabha constituency to run for the Lok Sabha election. TMC fielded Mitali Bagh against Arup Kanti Digar.

The 52-year-old BJP candidate is a teacher by profession and has received a graduation degree. While campaigning the BJP candidate from Arambag said his party is confident to win from the seat with 1 lakh votes. Digar said that the BJP is committed to solving the stalled Bhaba Dighi Railway Track Project, establishing railway connectivity between Tarakeshwar-Arambag-Jairambati-Kamarpukur, reviving and implementing the Arambag-Ghatal Master Plan, tackling problems like a frequent flood in Arambagh sub-division.

However Arup Kanti Digar is a novice in politics yet he has adopted a strategic campaign strategy of talking to non-BJP but anti-Trinamool Congress workers, especially the CPI (M), seeking their support to defeat the ruling party candidate from Arambagh. In 2019, TMC candidate won in Arambagh with a margin of nearly 1.43% votes. The BJP candidate is targeting the vote division and asking parites to unite against the Trinamool Congress.

In Arambagh constituency with an over 16,00,000 voters the majority of the population is dependent on agriculture for the livelihood. The areas of Arambag are nationally famous for the production of high quality of varieties of potatoes. The iconic Tarakeswar Lord Shiva temple is also located in this constituency.

In 2019, Aparupa Poddar of the TMC won the Arambagh constituency with 649929 votes (44.14%) , while BJP”s Tapan Kumar Ray got 648787 votes (44.06%). The BJP lost the election with a marginal percentage of 0.8%. The voters turn out was 83.44%.

The Arambagh Lok Sabha constituency consist of 7 assembly regions: Haripal, Tarakeswar, Pursurah, Arambagh, Goghat, Khanakul and Chandrakona. Out of the 4 assembly seats 4 were won by the BJP and 3 by TMC in the last assembly elections.

Arambagh Lok Sabha constituency is a SC category parliament seat. It comprises of part of Hoogly district and part of Paschim Medinipur district.

The litearcy rate of the Arambagh constituency is 73.2%. The SC, ST and Muslim populations are 23.65%, 5.73% and 15.03% respectively.
