BJP’s Kamakhya Prasad Ends The Gogoi Season In The Kaziranga Lok Sabha Constituency

Kaziranga (formerly known as Kaliabor), the traditional constituency of the Gogoi family and the stronghold of the congress for decades was finally taken over by Kamakhya Prasad of BJP with a margin of 2,49,947 votes.

After being represented by the Gogois of Congress party since 1998, Kaziranga witnessed a change in its political dynamics as Kamakya Prasad of BJP won the election securing 8,97,043 votes pushing back his rival Roselina Tirkey of Congress, who secured 6,48,096 votes.

Kamakhya Prasad Tasa was a member of parliament, from Jorhat of BJP from 2014 to 2019, as he won the election by securing a total of 4,56,420 votes. Through this victory, he defeated the six-time Congress MP and the former Union Minister, the late Bajoy Krishna Handique with a margin of 1,02,420 votes as Jorhat was the stronghold of Congress.

Kamakhya Prasad, the National Secretary of BJP, is a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Assam since 2019.  Being a formidable leader with a strong and substantial following base, he was also elected as the state Vice President of BJP in Assam from 2013 to 2017. He is credited with BJPs growing influence in various caste groups who have settled in Assam over the state, especially having arrived in the quest for jobs in the state’s tea garden. His role played a major role in the success of the BJP in the whole North-Eastern part of India.

For this Lok Sabha election, Gaurav Gogoi, the sitting MP was forced to move to Jorhat from his traditional seat of Kaliabor after it ceased to exist a new constituency Kaziranga was created and Roselina Tirkey was fielded. But it seems that she failed to secure the stronghold of Congress.
