Is BJP Going To Buy 400 Seats From The Market?: Shatrughan Sinha, TMC’s Asansol Candidate

Shatrughan Sinha, is famously known for his unique acting dialogue delivery and powerful voice. “Jale to aag kehte hai, bujhe to raakh kehte hai, jis raakh se barood bane usey Vishawanaath kehtein hai” and “Khamosh” are still popular among the audience even after decades. The famous veteran actor has been nominated by the TMC among its 42 candidates to run for the 18th Lok Sabha election from Asansol.

TMC candidate Shatrughan Sinha started his political campaign from Asansol by taking a bat in his hand. Targeting the BJP party, he asked whether the party was going to buy 400 seats from the market. BJP has fielded two-time party MP SS Ahluwalia from the Asansol constituency who has represented the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat and Darjeeling seat in 2019 and 2014 respectively.

Currently, Asansol is represented by Shatrughan Sinha, who is a sitting TMC MP. This time he said to ensure an even bigger margin of victory than the previous poll. Shatrugan who is famous for his filmy and political career has faced hurdles over his participation in politics as this caused a rift between him and Rajesh Khanna during the 1990s which he regrets fought till today, as per the veteran actor. Sinha has been elected to the lower house in 2009 and 2014 from Patna Sahib. He joined TMC in 2022.

Out of the 7 assembly seats 5 are occupied by TMC candidates and 2 by BJP candidates. In 2022, by election, Shatrugan Sinha won the TMC seat under him it registered a 21.43 percent vote increment. However, he has been targeted for not participating in the lower house proceedings actively.

Asansol is a general category parliament seat with a literacy rate of 67.99%. The SC, ST, and Muslim populations in the constituency are 27.41 percent, 6.3 percent, and 20.73 percent respectively.
