Yali Mobility chose Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) to facilitate 3-wheel E-vehicles under “Project Freedom” because of its rich heritage as one of the oldest central universities and a third position in the NIRF Ranking. The e–wheelchair vehicle was provided under the corporate social responsibility sponsorship to JMI in collaboration with their Centre for Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy( CSSEIP).
The Centre has helped mediate this venture as it has a mandate of promoting inclusiveness of marginalised sections of the society, including women, minorities, differently-abled, and transgenders. One of the research scholars at the centre, Elaiya Kumar was very well acquainted with members of the Yali team at IIT Madras incubation and research centre.
Additionally, the university”s emphasis on multidisciplinary education, social inclusivity, and cultural diversity aligns perfectly with Project Freedom”s goal of revolutionising accessibility and fostering inclusivity on campus.
By providing a vehicle to empower wheelchair students, Yali Mobility aims to enhance independence and facilitate greater participation in campus life at JMI, thereby contributing to the realisation of its vision for an inclusive and empowering campus environment.
Yali Mobility, an incubated startup from IIT Madras, specialises in providing accessible vehicles tailored for wheelchair users and the elderly, enhancing their daily outdoor commute to be both effortless and enjoyable. Motorised wheelchairs are useful for those unable to propel a manual wheelchair or who may need to use a wheelchair for distances or over terrain that would be fatiguing in a manual wheelchair. The wheelchair user can fully control the speed, direction, and movement of the wheelchair without the need for an outside person to push the wheelchair.
A company’s attempt to give back to the community, support charitable organisations, and create good social value is intended to be organised through corporate social responsibility programmes.
