Audi RS Q8 Performance: Unleashing 640hp in Audi's Most Powerful SUV

Audi has unveiled the RS Q8 Performance, now the most powerful internal combustion engine (ICE) model in their lineup, boasting a formidable 640hp. This new variant surpasses the standard 600hp RS Q8 by 40hp, narrowly edging out the 630hp Audi RS6 Avant Performance estate and coming just 10hp shy of the pure-V8 Lamborghini Urus, which will soon retire.

The RS Q8 Performance features a twin-turbocharged petrol V8 engine, enabling a blistering 0-100kph time of just 3.6 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the standard RS Q8. The 250kph speed limiter has been removed, allowing the vehicle to reach a top speed of 306kph. Power is delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox.

Enhancements to the Performance variant include a freer-flowing exhaust system that not only boosts performance but also delivers a sportier and more evocative sound. The vehicle retains the self-locking central differential from the RS Q8, reducing understeer and enhancing cornering precision. Standard features also include adaptive air suspension and a launch control system.

Visually, the RS Q8 Performance mirrors the RS Q8, with both models distinguished from the standard Q8 by their bulkier bodies, honeycomb grilles, and subtly restyled front and rear ends. Both models are having matrix LED headlights and customizable OLED rear lights. The Performance variant also features a large rear diffuser, fearsome oval tailpipes, new matte gold 22-inch alloy wheels, and RS badging.

Inside, the RS Q8 Performance boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster upgraded to include a gear-change indicator for optimal manual mode shifts. The interior features the infotainment (10.1-inch) and climate control (8.6-inch) screens as the Q8, but with new Alcantara finishes and exclusive blue accents. Additionally, the Performance model offers the option of lighter 23-inch alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero rubber, reducing the vehicle’s weight by 20kg.

The RS Q8 Performance arrives as part of an update for the RS Q8, following Audi’s refresh of the standard Q8 late last year. This update includes the latest technological and performance enhancements, ensuring the RS Q8 Performance stands out as a top-tier offering in Audi’s SUV lineup.

While the RS Q8 Performance represents Audi’s pinnacle of ICE performance, there is currently no information on whether this high-powered variant will be available in India. The standard Q8 is priced between Rs 1.07 crore and Rs 1.43 crore, while the RS Q8 is priced at Rs 2.22 crore. Audi enthusiasts in India will have to wait and see if the RS Q8 Performance joins the lineup.
