BMW Motorrad has announced the launch of its new flagship adventure tourer, the BMW R 1300 GS, in India on June 13. This model will replace the outgoing R 1250 GS and sit atop BMW’s adventure touring lineup. The R 1300 GS, which made its global debut in September last year, will be available in India as a fully imported model via the CBU route. It will be offered in three trims: GS Trophy, Triple Black, and the top-spec Option 719 Tramuntana. Bookings are currently open through the company’s official website and selected dealerships.
Design
The R 1300 GS maintains the iconic design elements of its predecessors, with BMW opting not to make significant changes. Key design features include a prominent beak up front, a muscular fuel tank, and a compact adjustable fly screen. The bike also features a floating tail section, a single-piece pillion grab rail with an integrated luggage rack, split seats, a stubby upswept exhaust muffler, hand guards, and a rear tyre hugger. Notably, the R 1300 GS is 13 kilograms lighter than the R 1250 GS.
Mechanical Specifications
R 1300 GS is powered by an all-new 1,300cc twin-cylinder engine that produces 145 bhp at 7,750 rpm and a peak torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This represents a significant increase from the R 1250 GS, which generated 134 bhp and 143 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The bike features a sheet metal frame with a die-cast aluminium subframe and an electronically adjustable suspension setup. BMW’s patented Telelever front suspension and Paralever rear suspension enhance the bike’s handling and ride quality. The R 1300 GS rides on wire-spoked wheels with 120/70-R19 front and 170/60-R17 rear tyres.
Features
As a flagship model, the R 1300 GS is well-equipped with advanced features. It boasts a Matrix LED headlamp with X-shaped LED DRLs, LED turn indicators, and knuckle guards with integrated LED turn indicators. The bike also includes an adaptive seat height function and a digital instrument console. For rider safety and convenience, BMW has integrated a range of electronic aids, including radar-assisted cruise control, multiple ride modes, traction control, and switchable ABS.
The BMW R 1300 GS is set to redefine adventure touring with its enhanced performance, cutting-edge features, and iconic design. Enthusiasts eagerly await its arrival in India, where it is set to become a top choice for adventure touring aficionados.
