BMW Discontinues G 310 R And G 310 GS Motorcycles — Making Way For 450s?

In India, BMW Motorrad has stopped producing the G 310 R and G 310 GS. The two motorcycles have reportedly been out of stock since January of this year, and dealers have also reportedly failed to restock their stock. It’s also noteworthy that the two motorcycles were discounted by Rs 50,000 until December 2024.

The G 310 R and G 310 GS motorcycles have reached the end of their useful lives, and BMW has not made the decision to upgrade the engines to comply with the most recent OBD-2B standards. Additionally, the majority of Indian dealerships have no unsold motorcycles.

The G 310 RR, the third model in the 310 lineup, is still available and will remain so for some time. Given that TVS will be introducing its own 300cc engine, which was shown off last year, there is a possibility that the fully-faired 310 could soon stop being produced as well. It is anticipated that the engine would debut with the TVS adventure motorcycle.

According to BMW, the new F 450 GS will be introduced in India later this year. Its 450cc twin-cylinder engine may give rise to both a street-naked and a fully-faired motorbike. This hasn’t been confirmed, yet. The only confirmed information as of now is that TVS will build the BMW F 450 GS, which will give the motorcycle a price edge, and that it would be introduced in India later this year.

Prior to the new OBD-2B emission standards taking effect on April 1, 2025, production of both bikes was stopped in January 2025. The G 310 pair had reached the end of its product lifespan and were facing growing competition from more recent, potent, and feature-rich competitors in addition to regulatory obstacles.

The G 310 GS is still listed on BMW’s official website, which may indicate that there is limited supply left, but the G 310 R has already been removed. However, it’s unlikely that unsold devices would stay because of the steep year-end discounts that were offered before discontinuance. The G 310 RR, a completely faired sportbike with BMW branding and design components that is based on the TVS Apache RR 310, will remain available from BMW in the future. The same 312cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that powers the TVS Apache RR 310 and RTR 310 and generates 34 horsepower and 27 Nm still powers it. Looking ahead, BMW is getting ready to unveil the brand-new F 450 GS Enduro, which debuted at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
