BMW Unveils The All-Electric i5 M60 xDrive In India: A New Chapter In Luxury EVs

BMW has officially launched its all-electric i5 M60 xDrive in India, marking another significant addition to its growing electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The model, which is priced at Rs 1.19 crore (ex-showroom), will be available exclusively in the high-performance M60 xDrive variant and will be imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU).

Positioned within the BMW EV Portfolio

The BMW i5 M60 xDrive slots neatly between the i4 and the i7 flagship in BMW’s portfolio, expanding the German automaker”s electric offerings to five distinct models. This strategic launch not only broadens BMW”s EV range but also strengthens its commitment to electrification in the Indian market.

Design and Aesthetics

The i5 M60 xDrive carries a more aggressive design than the standard i5, featuring sporty bumpers and an illuminated Kidney Grille, iconic to BMW”s design language. It also sports 20-inch wheels, adaptive headlights, flared side skirts, and red brake calipers. The car”s aerodynamic efficiency is enhanced with flush door handles and vertically stacked Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The rear design mirrors the sophistication of the 7 Series, characterized by slim tail lamps, reinforcing the vehicle”s premium positioning.

Luxurious Interiors and Advanced Features

Inside, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive boasts a high level of luxury and technology. The cabin is outfitted with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, ventilated seats, and carbon fiber trim. Seating options include Alcantara or Venganza upholstery, complemented by a dark roof lining and a panoramic sunroof. It also offers four-zone climate control and a comprehensive 360-degree camera system for enhanced comfort and convenience.

The focal point of the tech offerings is a 14.9-inch infotainment system that includes gaming and video capabilities, alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Connectivity features such as smartphone integration, advanced navigation, and a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system cater to both driver and passenger needs.

Performance and Charging

Under the hood—or floor, in this case—the i5 M60 xDrive is powered by an 81.2kWh battery pack that delivers power to all four wheels. The dual electric motors produce an impressive 600bhp and 795Nm of torque. BMW claims the vehicle can reach a top speed of 230 kmph and offers a range of up to 516 km on a single charge, placing it competitively within the luxury EV segment. For convenience, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes using a 205kW DC fast charger.

With the launch of the i5 M60 xDrive, BMW not only enhances its portfolio but also brings a sophisticated, high-performance electric vehicle to India”s luxury car market, offering a compelling blend of style, comfort, and cutting-edge technology.
