Force Motors has officially launched the 2024 edition of its rugged off-road SUV, the Force Gurkha, now available in both a 3-door and a new 5-door version. The launch introduces the 5-door model to complement the existing 3-door version, offering more space and seating capacity. The 3-door version, designed with a four-seat configuration, is priced at Rs 16.75 lakh, whereas the 5-door version, which includes a seven-seat arrangement with two captain seats in the rear, is at Rs 18 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom).
Bookings for the new Gurkha models began recently with a token amount of Rs 25,000. The Pune-based manufacturer has announced that dispatches to dealerships will start this week, and test drives are slated to begin by mid-May.
At the launch, it was emphasized that the Gurkha represents the company”s commitment to delivering a robust driving experience, combining Force”s legacy of engineering excellence with modern features.
Design and Features
Despite retaining much of its iconic design, the new Gurkha has received several updates. The exterior features a revised honeycomb nose front grille, and other notable elements include flared wheel arches, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, round LED headlamps enhanced with circular dotted LED DRLs, and LED fog lamps equipped with a cornering function. Both models come standard with a snorkel, side steps, and a roof rack, ensuring they’re adventure-ready right off the dealership floor.
The 5-door model is notably 125mm longer and 26mm taller than the 3-door, although their widths remain identical. Customers can choose from four exterior colour options: red, green, white, and black.
Inside, the Gurkha has seen subtle yet significant improvements. It now features a 9-inch aftermarket touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other updates include a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, electronically adjustable ORVMs, an auto start-stop system, and an electronically controlled shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive selector. For safety, the Gurkha is equipped with dual airbags, ABS, and EBD.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the Gurkha continues to be powered by a robust 2.6-litre turbo diesel engine sourced from Mercedes Benz, which has been updated to produce 138 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The vehicle features two driving modes, Eco and Power, catering to different driving preferences and conditions.
All four wheels receive power through a low-range transfer case, enhancing the SUV”s off-roading prowess. This capability is further supported by front and rear mechanical locking differentials, ensuring that the Gurkha is as capable off-road as it is on the road.
With these updates, the 2024 Force Gurkha is set to continue its legacy as a durable and dependable vehicle that combines traditional SUV ruggedness with modern conveniences and safety features.
