Mercedes-Benz”s Vision EQXX, renowned for its exceptional efficiency, recently completed its third expedition, traversing the Arabian Desert and showcasing its prowess in electric mobility. Departing from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the journey culminated in Dubai, UAE, covering a distance of 1,010 kilometers in just 14 hours and 42 minutes. The vehicle, starting with a fully charged battery, arrived in Dubai with 309 kilometers of range still remaining, demonstrating its remarkable energy efficiency.
Throughout the expedition, which encompassed diverse terrains including urban streets and desert expanses, the Vision EQXX consumed merely 7.4 kWh per 100 kilometers, equivalent to an impressive 8.4 miles per kWh. This translates to approximately 0.9 liters per 100 kilometers or 282 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) for a petrol-fuelled vehicle, showcasing its groundbreaking efficiency.
One of the significant challenges faced during the journey was the extreme desert conditions, with temperatures soaring up to 34 degrees Celsius (93 degrees Fahrenheit). However, the Vision EQXX surpassed expectations, thanks to its advanced thermal management system, which efficiently regulated the temperature of the electric drivetrain and cabin. The integration of a multi-source heat pump and an intelligent on-demand system minimized energy consumption, ensuring optimal performance even in harsh environments.
Moreover, the expedition provided an opportunity to evaluate the performance of the vehicle”s solar roof, equipped with 117 solar cells. These cells harvested 1.8 kWh of solar energy during the drive to Dubai, extending the overall range by approximately 24 kilometers. The potential series-production benefits of this technology are being researched, with data collected on its efficiency under various environmental conditions.
The driving team, comprising experienced experts, played a crucial role in optimizing energy consumption throughout the journey. Leveraging the car”s intelligent efficiency assistant, the team received real-time guidance based on factors such as sun and wind conditions, ensuring maximum efficiency at all times. Additionally, the team utilized the solar information display to position the vehicle optimally for maximum solar yield during stops, further enhancing its efficiency.
The Vision EQXX have covered 23,340 kilometers under diverse real-life conditions and is a pioneer in the space of electric mobility. Its compact dimensions and sleek design have garnered significant attention, symbolizing a desirable blend of luxury and sustainability in electric mobility. The vehicle”s expeditions across Europe, the United States, and China underscore Mercedes-Benz”s commitment to electrification and environmental consciousness on a global scale.
The Vision EQXX”s recent expedition across the Arabian Desert exemplifies its remarkable efficiency and performance in diverse conditions. With cutting-edge technology and a focus on sustainability, Mercedes-Benz continues to lead the way towards a future of luxurious and environmentally conscious mobility.
