Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced the EQE 500 4Matic SUV to the Indian market, pricing it at Rs 1.39 crore. Notably, Mercedes has chosen to exclusively offer the top-tier variant of the standard SUV in India, opting not to bring the more potent AMG-spec EQE SUVs to the country. This launch marks the third entry of a Mercedes electric vehicle (EV) in India, following the EQB SUV and the EQS sedan.
In terms of standout features, the Mercedes EQE 500 4Matic SUV boasts a remarkable WLTP range of 550 kilometres and comes equipped with the impressive 56-inch Hyperscreen infotainment unit as standard. It”s noteworthy that this SUV will be sold in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
When it comes to design, the EQE SUV retains the sleek and clean styling found in Mercedes” other EVs, featuring aerodynamic wheels and a sealed-off front grille for improved aerodynamic efficiency. The vehicle rides on 20-inch wheels and benefits from air suspension, which can raise the SUV”s ride height by 25mm. Its dimensions are quite generous, with a length of 4,863mm, a height of 1,685mm, and a wheelbase of 3,030mm, ensuring a spacious and comfortable interior.
Inside the cabin, the EQE 500 SUV impresses with the standard inclusion of Mercedes” striking 56-inch Hyperscreen unit. This innovative infotainment setup comprises three interconnected screens on the dashboard, encased in thick tempered glass. These screens serve various purposes, from displaying digital instruments to providing entertainment options through the passenger display and central infotainment unit.
Further, the EQE comes loaded with features, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a premium 15-speaker Burmester sound system, a cabin HEPA filter for ensuring clean air quality, and front seat massage functions for added comfort.
Under the hood, the Mercedes EQE 500 SUV is equipped with a robust dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration, and it includes the off-road package as standard. Powering this SUV is a substantial 90.56kWh battery, delivering a claimed WLTP range of 550 kilometres. It”s worth noting that the vehicle supports both an 11kW AC charger and rapid DC fast charging of up to 170kW.
The dual motors produce an impressive 408hp and a substantial 858Nm of torque, enabling the EQE 500 to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h. The SUV offers three levels of regenerative braking, conveniently adjustable via paddle shifters behind the wheel. Additionally, Mercedes provides a generous 10-year warranty on the battery, ensuring long-term peace of mind for buyers.
While the Mercedes EQE SUV may come at a slightly higher price point, it enters the Indian market as a CBU, facing competition from other luxury electric SUVs, including the recently launched Audi Q8 e-tron (priced between Rs 1.14 crore to Rs 1.26 crore), the BMW iX (Rs 1.21 crore), and the Jaguar I-Pace (Rs 1.20 crore). Despite the premium pricing, the EQE 500 4Matic SUV offers a compelling package of luxury, performance, and advanced electric technology for selective Indian buyers.
