Airtel Partners with SpaceX to Bring Starlink Internet to India
Airtel has announced a strategic partnership with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet to its customers in India. The agreement, subject to SpaceX securing regulatory approvals, marks the first of its kind in India and aims to complement Airtel’s existing telecom services while expanding Starlink’s reach in the country.
As part of the collaboration, Airtel and SpaceX will explore the distribution of Starlink equipment through Airtel’s retail stores and offer its services to business customers. The partnership also seeks to connect remote communities, schools, and healthcare centres with high-speed broadband, particularly in regions with little to no coverage. Additionally, the companies will evaluate how Starlink can enhance Airtel’s network infrastructure while leveraging Airtel’s ground facilities to improve SpaceX’s services in India.
Airtel’s Managing Director and Vice Chairman, Gopal Vittal, highlighted the importance of the partnership, stating, “Working with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone. This collaboration enhances our ability to bring world-class high-speed broadband to even the most remote parts of India, ensuring reliable internet for individuals, businesses, and communities.”
The telecom giant already has an alliance with Eutelsat OneWeb and aims to strengthen its ability to offer nationwide connectivity. By integrating Starlink’s enterprise solutions, Airtel will provide businesses and communities with seamless broadband access. The partnership aligns with Airtel’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance connectivity across the country.
