According to a Business Today report, the Central government is scrutinizing the operations of Unacademy, Byju”s IAS, Drishti IAS, and Vajirao & Reddy Institutes for their misleading and deceptive claims. The report, quoting sources, said that the government has sent notices to 20 coaching institutes for their misleading claims.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) had imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on IQRA IAS Institute and Rau”s IAS Study Circle for misleading advertisements a few months ago.
The report says that the government may make it compulsory for IAS coaching centers to disclose the details of the tall claims they make to attract aspirants. The government may announce the norms for coaching centers preparing students for the highest competitive exams this week.
The sources also advised celebrities to exercise caution while endorsing a coaching center without fact-checking and to be aware of what they say, as it may not be substantiated.
