Ex-Chief Minster Pinarayi Vijayan's Veena appears Before ED In Money Laundering Case

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Former Kerala chief minister  Pinarayi Vijayan’s Veena Vijayan on Thursday, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in money laundering case. Veena appeared before ED for the second time in connection with the case linked  to her now-defunct IT firm, Exalogic Solutions Pvt Ltd, and Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL).

Veena reached the ED office around 9:20 am and is being questioned by officials. On June 17, Veena had been questioned for more than nine hours with the  case registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The ED is investigating allegations that CMRL paid Rs 2.78 crore to Exalogic Solutions Pvt Ltd, owned by Veena, without receiving any services in return. The central agency has alleged that  Veena and the management of CMRL generated proceeds of crime through these transactions.

The agency further said that Empower India Capital Investments Private Ltd, operated by CMRL Managing Director Sasidharan Kartha, gave loans totalling Rs 50 lakh to Exalogic despite the firm allegedly not repaying them on time.

Officials had inspected Veena’s bank lockers in Thiruvananthapuram as part of the investigation on June 19. In May this year, ED carried out a raid on the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister and incumbent leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan in the Exalogic-CMRL case in connection with his daughter. The raid ended, failing to collect no substantiate evidences in connection with the case.
