India has a better global mobile download speed than that of Japan and Turkiye, the Ookla Index said. In this, India is ahead of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and G20 countries. The G20 countries that India has overtaken are Mexico which stands at 90th position, Turkiye at 68th position, the United Kingdom which is at 62nd, Japan at 58th, Brazil at 50th position, and South Africa which stands at 48th position.
As per the Ookla speed test global index, India has gone up by 72 notches higher. India now has the 47th position, which can be attributed the launch of 5G services in the country, the HT reported.
A substantial improvement can be seen in the mobile download speed in India which has catapulted it to the top 50 in the Seattle based company’s Index. Since the introduction of 5G services, the downloading speed has seen a performance increase by 3.59 times, with the median downloading speed increase improving from 13.87 Mbps in September 2022 to 50.21 Mbps in August 2023.
The index said that ‘this improvement has led to India”s rise in the Speedtest Global Index, moving up 72 places, from 119th place to the 47th position.”
India’s 5G launch, carried out by telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel has added substantially to the increasing users of 5G. The telecom operators have more plans on 5G roll out and on setting up base stations. The 5G roll out has created a better experience across circles and the investors have been investing in the 5G infrastructure.
The Net Promoter Score indicates that 5G has ushered in faster download speeds and along with-it customer satisfaction. It also says that Indian 5G users steadily and constantly rate their network operators while it is not the case with the 4G users.
The Independence Day speech this year, had the Prime Minister of India talking to the country beyond the 5g wave. At the Red Fort, he had announced that a task force for 6G services had been set up. “My country is the fastest country to roll out 5G. We have reached more than 700 districts and now we are getting ready for 6G. We have formed a task force,” he had said.
