blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa announced today that the first store of the delivery platform has been launched in Kochi, Kerala. He wrote on X that the company unveiled its first store in Kochi located in Kaloor and will be serving Kaloor Stadium, Palarivattom, Jawahar Nagar and other nearby areas.

blinkit, formerly known as Grofers, was founded in December 2013 by Albinder Dhindsa and Saurabh Kumar. The duo, who met while working at Cambridge Systematics had a goal to revolutionise the grocery delivery space by addressing the challenges faced by both customers and merchants.

Initially piloting in Delhi NCR, the startup expanded to other Indian cities and introduced express grocery delivery through dark stores. Blinkit achieved 7000+ deliveries in 15 minutes in Gurgaon by July 2021, and it introduced 10-minute delivery in top-12 cities by August 2021.
Today, blinkit operates in over 30 Indian cities, delivering 1.25 lakh orders daily within the cities. The company has raised $630 million from investors like SoftBank, Tiger Global, and Sequoia Capital. In 2022, Zomato acquired Blinkit for $568 million in an all-stock deal. The company has now unwrapped in Kochi, Kerala with a vision to promote small merchants also aiding customers with fast delivery. The brand started delivering essential items like Milk, Curry Masala and other provisions in Kochi on Tuesday.
Users have been commenting that they really expect blinkit to expand to their states as well. One user said that he is eagerly waiting for the company to launch in Nagpur.

On September 2, Monday the company unwrapped its services in Punjab. blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa wrote on X “With the customer love we’ve seen in other Punjab cities, this was a natural next step.”
