India”s richest woman, Savitri Jindal, became India”s top wealth gainer in 2023, surpassing the country”s richest individuals, such as Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, according to data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The 73-year-old raised her net worth by $9.6 billion in the calendar year 2023, while Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance and India”s richest individual, was able to raise only $5 billion in the same period. With this, Savitri Jindal took a significant stride in the billionaires list, securing fifth place with a net worth of $25.3 billion.
Savitri Jindal is the chairperson of the OP Jindal Group, the parent company of JSW Steel, Jindal Steel & Power, JSW Energy, Jindal Saw, Jindal Stainless, and investment firm JSW Holdings. The OP Jindal Group had taken its port operator JSW Infrastructure to the primary market with a successful initial public offer (IPO), raising Rs. 1260 crore in October 2023. The Jindal family is now planning to list JSW Cement in the upcoming year.
HCL Tech founder Shiv Nadar is the second-largest wealth gainer, following Savitri Jindal. Nadar gained approximately $8 billion in 2023, and with this, Nadar”s net worth reached around $32.6 billion. The significant performance of HCL Shares, which saw a rise of 45 percent in the current year, helped Nadar increase his net worth.
DLF Chairman and CEO Kushal Pal Singh, Kumar Mangalam Birla, and Shapoor Mistry adorned the next three positions with a net worth rise of $7 billion and $6.3 billion, respectively.
Mukesh Ambani added $5.2 billion to his net worth, while Dilip Shangavi, Managing Director of Sun Pharma, saw a rise of $4.7 billion. Gautam Adani remained a wealth loser as his wealth dropped by $35.4 billion to hit $85.1 billion in the calendar year 2023.
