Telangana Drug Control Officials Seize Rs 1.33 Crore Worth False Antibiotics From Pharma Firm

Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized antibiotics worth Rs 1.33 crore in a raid conducted at a drug manufacturing facility on Tuesday, November 27. The raid was held in the ‘Jodas Expoim Private Limited’ situated in Biotech Park, Karkapatla of Siddipet District of Telangana. The antibiotics were discovered in the firm’s finished goods warehouse.

The uncovered antibiotics were found to be falsely labeled, with fake claims about their manufacturing origin. The company falsely labeled their brand name in the products manufactured by other firms and sent them to Russia in their name. The unauthorized backpacking was busted by the officials of the Telangana DCA.

The products were falsely labeled as products of Jodas Expoim Private Limited’s, while the actual manufacturer was Indian Genomix Private Limited, based in Cherlapally, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, Telangana.

The drug control officials said that they received credible information about the firm and thus conducted the raid on November 26 at Karakapatla facility and detected the stock of antibiotics. The investigation verified the drug and found that a batch of antibiotic Ampicillin Sulbactam 1000 mg 500 mg injections, comprising a quantity of 38,175 vials, was falsely labeled as manufactured by Jodas Expoim Pvt Ltd, India, Alpa Laboratories Ltd, 33/2, A.B. Road, Pigdamber, Indore, MP 453446, India, reported NDTV.

Notably, the said batch was originally manufactured by another company in Cherlapally, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, Telangana, and it is being exported to Russia in a flask label.

However, the stocks of antibiotics have contravened the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940, and the DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
