For selecting the best tourism village, the tourism ministry invites applications from all states and UT, seeking to honour the villages that best exemplify a rural tourism destination, as per the ministry’s website. The best tourism village depicts cultural and natural assets and preserves and promotes community-based values, goods, and lifestyles.
The competition that is being held every year is aimed at promoting the commitment of villagers towards economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Making tourism one of the drivers of positive change, rural development, and community well-being is one of the goals of the organization of the competition.
