Why Did Natarajan Chandrasekaran Resign As The Tata Sons Chairman?

Days ahead of the company’s annual general meeting, scheduled for August 18, Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran has announced his resignation from the post.

Chandrasekaran did not cite any reason for stepping down from the title. In a statement, he expressed his gratitude for the “immensely satisfying opportunity to contribute to this venerable institution” for over 40 years of professional life at the Tata Group. The resignation follows amid reports of differences between Chandrasekaran and Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata.

“Leading Tata Sons over the past decade has been a great honour and a profound responsibility,” the former Tata sons chairman added. As Chandrasekaran’s current term is set to expire earlier next year, he specified that he will not seek reappointment after his term ends.

The former chairman also revealed that he has asked the Board to decide on the succession soon to ensure a proper transition. Notably, following the resignation of Chandrasekaran, shares of Tata Group companies dropped significantly.
