The Consulate General of India in New York has started an initiative to facilitate Indian students to get internship opportunities in companies located in the USA. The Consulate tweeted about the initiative through its social media handle on ‘X’ India in New York.
It said, “As part of the initiative to support Indian students in its jurisdiction, India in New York has developed a platform for Indian Students to find internship opportunities at companies in the USA.”
As per the information given on the Consulate General of India website, the Indian Student Resource Portal is a new facility for students as part of the Consulate’s effort to support Indian students in its jurisdiction. With the consulate’s efforts, several Indian and American companies and organizations have agreed to consider deserving Indian students for internship opportunities. Students are advised to apply directly to the companies as per the details provided in the portal.

However, the consulate clarified its neutrality in the selection process for the candidates. “It may please be noted that the Consulate has no role in selection for internship nor is it responsible for the same”, the portal referred.

Notably, the United States continues to be the most attractive overseas education destination for Indian students, and in 2024, a rise in visa applications was observed by the US Embassy in comparison to the previous year. In 2023, the US issued a record number of student visas to nearly 1,40,000 students.

As per the annual Open Doors Report 2023, the number of students jumped over by 35% in the academic year 2022-23 reaching a total number of 2,68,923. Indian students make up over 25 percent of the total international students studying in the United States.
