Washington, D.C, United States: US President Donald Trump on Friday said he believes that a ceasefire can be reached in Gaza between Israel and Hamas within a week. While speaking to reporters, the US president expressed his ceasefire hope, noting that he had spoken to some of the people involved in trying to get a truce in the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.

“I think it’s close. “I just spoke to some of the people involved. “We think within the next week we’re going to get a ceasefire,” Al Jazeera quoted Trump. However, the president has not provided further details regarding the potential truce, including the persons he contacted.

The development comes following growing pressure on the Israeli military and political leadership amid the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, which many call genocide. “We’re involved because people are dying,” Trump said while hinting at the potential truce.

French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this week said that the US president is assiduously pursuing a truce. “On Gaza, I felt that President Trump was very determined, very resolute, aware of the importance of a ceasefire, and I think his commitment is essential to this issue,” he said.

The US recently brokered 12-day Iran-Israel war, ending the tense conflict between the two significant military powers in the West Asia. Around 55,000 Palestinians have been killed and several others missing since Israel began its genocidal offensive in Gaza. The indiscriminate killing against civilians in the besieged strip has stricken the consciousness of the people across the world. Despite the international pressure, Israel continues its offensive campaign against Palestinians.
